beware intex parts

by Guillermo Torres from Heart of Aztlan on 2010-07-24
I have bought two pools from Intex. As products go, they are ok. merely OK. But what you should be aware of is if you need replacements parts, you are on your own. The filter pump went out after 4 months use. So I thought it would be easy to get a replacement part. Easy. Right? No. Most retailers will not carry these parts. You are at the mercy of Atex's very high prices if you order from them. Amazon lists them, if at all, at very high prices. Please beware of the shortage of replacement parts, because like I said, you will be on your own. CRYING kids because of product failure or no parts is not a pretty thing.
Love it!

This is the first pool we've bought (other than little wading pools for the grand-kids). It was easy for us to set up and fill. From out of the box to full was probably 4 hours or so. I wish we had ordered a ladder as well - thought we could find one around town which isn't the case - too late in the season I guess. There is plenty of room for all the grand-kids, or hubby and I (when the water warms a little more!). We have found no leaks in either the pool itself or the inflated ring. The filter works like a dream, right out of the box (tho the directions could be a little clearer). I would definitely recommend this pool.
Fun but full of holes

by MLE from Orem, UT on 2010-06-18
This is the fourth one of these pools that I have had and all of them have had holes. The first one I bought two years ago. We took it home and started to set it up and found a small "pin" hole. We took it back to the store and they replaced it. That one worked fine till the next summer, when we went to set it up it was full of the same "pin" holes. We patched it the best we could and throw it away at the end of the summer. This summer we bought a new one, took it home and the same thing, more holes. This time the store wouldn't take it back and said we had to contact the manufacturer. It was a weekend so we couldn't get them until Monday. When we did finally get through, they had us cut the pool up and send pieces of the pool back to them at our expense! So now I was another eight dollars (shipping) and two weeks into it when I got the replacement pool that they sent me. I set it up and guess what MORE HOLES!!! I called them back and they wanted me to send pieces of this one back too. I will never buy another pool from Intex again.
great buy

I bought this on ebay, not here, and I bought a package that included a ladder, cover, and increased capacity filter pump (1000gph). That package was $175 and included free shipping. It was money very well spent. We have days on end here over 100 degrees, and the air conditioner is just too expensive to run. This pool is blessed relief. It was very easy to set up, and is very easy to maintain. You should read a little on line about maintaining chemical balance in your pool. We use regular household bleach, and test the chlorine every day. If things go completely awry it won't be a big deal to drain and refill (approx. 1700 gal.) The most common complaint with these things is from people who ignored the warning about setting it up on level ground. The ground MUST be level. We, too, underinflated the ring and a couple of hundred gallons flowed into the next door neighbor's garage in the middle of the night, fortunately causing no damage. My advice is to fill it good and tight at the hottest part of the day. That way it won't pop from overinflation and will probably still have enough air to hold up over night. Plan on keeping an eye on it at first. All in all, I'm really glad we got this. It's big enough for a number of adults to cool off, and is huge fun for kids.
Easy to set up, but a few problems

by J. Askew from on 2007-07-21
The pool sets up pretty much as advertised, but there were a few surprises along the way. The surface we set up on is level within spec. There is a 1" drop across the length of the pool, which amounts to an 0.4 degree slope. During the evening after filling the pool, the top ring deflated a bit (probably due to the air inside cooling rather than a leak). As a result the sidewall collapsed and dumped a few hundred gallons of water in our patio. Lesson: Set this up in an area with good drainage (fortunately we have good drainage). The plugs for the filter holes do not fit properly. Customer service said they get many comments about this, but it is that way by design. They also said that the design was necessitated by the "amount of water pressure that pops the plugs out", however the design is such that the water pressure actually helps hold them in. IMHO this was scripted spin to cover up a design flaw. All that aside, the plugs will probably suffice for performing filter changes or pump maintenance. They probably will not work if people are in the pool since the plugs cannot be pushed all of the way in.
